The Professional Unification of Martial Arts takes its duty of care to junior students very seriously. P.U.M.A. has a dedicated children’s syllabus, a comprehensive Safeguarding Code of Conduct and has appointed a Safeguarding Designated Lead and Safeguarding Team.
The current DSL is Ms Louise Reeve IV Degree Black Belt and School Owner. She can be contacted on 07866723631 or through the Safeguarding link on the P.U.M.A. webpage. Ms. Reeve is a CPD certified safeguarding trainer and DSL level 3. Specialist areas include teaching children with SEN (Special Educational Needs) and therapeutic teaching.
At Swain Taekwon-Do we take safeguarding incredibly seriously – and we are delighted to announce we now have attained the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts mark! The code has been developed in consultation with Sport England, and demonstrates a Martial Arts club’s commitment to upholding their duty of care to the community and young people, and that they have reached and effectively maintained good safeguarding standards!

The Professional Unification of Martial Arts (P.U.M.A.) acknowledges the duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of all students and adults especially those who are most vulnerable / impressionable (Children and Adults at Risk) and are fully committed to ensuring our safeguarding practice recognises and reflects our statutory responsibilities and government guidance and that it complies with best practice.
Our Safeguarding Code of Conduct recognises that the welfare and interests of Children and Adults at Risk are paramount in all circumstances. It aims to ensure that regardless of age, gender, ability or disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation, socio-economic background, or status, all students:
P.U.M.A acknowledges that some students, including students with disabilities / illness (mental and physical), young people or those from ethnic minority communities, can be particularly vulnerable and we accept the responsibility to take reasonable and appropriate steps to ensure we safeguard their welfare.
As part of our Safeguarding Code of Conduct P.U.M.A. will:
P.U.M.A’s Safeguarding Code of Conduct will be widely promoted and enforced for everyone involved within the organisation. Failure to comply with the policy and procedures will be addressed without delay and may ultimately result in dismissal/exclusion from the organisation.
P.U.M.A’s Safeguarding Code of Conduct will be reviewed minimum 3 yearly but also in the following circumstances: change in legislation and/or government guidance as or when required by the Local Safeguarding Children Board, UK Sport as or following a result of any other significant change or event.
Our Safeguarding Code of Conduct which cover our detailed and specific safeguarding protocols will be available on the P.U.M.A. website. School owners, instructors and anyone else involve in working with Children and Adults at risk will be notified of the initial update and any further updates which occur. Parents, Carers and students will be strongly encouraged to read it.
